THE DANCER

Filmed to convey the physical aspects of dancing, THE DANCER captures the fierce determination and struggle that goes into the desire to dance at the highest level.

“Anyone interested in ballet will want to see The Dancer.” - Anna Kisselgoff, The New York Times

ETOILES: DANCERS OF THE PARIS OPERA BALLET

ETOILES celebrates the legacy of the famed Paris Opera Ballet by weaving together rehearsals and tour snapshots of classical and contemporary works. It also delves into the psychology of dance by talking candidly with some of the biggest stars in dance today – how and why they endure the emotional and physical hardships of ballet.

PRIMA BALLERINA

A double portrait of two icons of contemporary Russian ballet: Svetlana Zakharova of the Bolshoi and Ulyana Lopatkina of the Mariinsky. Each have their own unique style and personality, on stage and off. Revealing interviews give an inside perspective on the joys and challenges of being a prima ballerina, while extended sequences from classics of the repertoire such as Swan Lake, Scheherazade and Sleeping Beauty provide a front row seat to their skill and artistry.

DANCING ACROSS BORDERS

DANCING ACROSS BORDERS is the intimate and triumphant story of Sokvannara “Sy” Sar, who as a young man in Cambodia was dancing with a small troupe in Angkor Wat when Anne Bass, a longtime patron of dance in America, saw him perform. Bass was so taken with Sy’s talent and potential that she arranged for him to come to New York and audition for the prestigious School of the American Ballet. What unfolds is a tentative negotiation between Sy and the world of American ballet and culture – from the serene countryside of Southeast Asia to the high-powered rehearsal studios of New York, and finally to the stage of the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle. The film follows Sy’s unusual development as a dancer and offers an astonishing, behind-the-scenes look into the world of American ballet.
