Description

Two males and a female vie for office, indulging in low blows and spin, character assassination and gestures of goodwill, all the while gauging their standing with voters. The setting is not the Democratic presidential campaign trail but a third-grade class at an elementary school in the city of Wuhan in central China.

Please Vote for Me, which made the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ documentary feature shortlist, packs its fleet hour with keen observations. Chronicling a public school’s first open elections – at stake is the position of class monitor – filmmaker Weijun Chen has crafted a witty, engaging macro-lens view of human nature, China’s one-child policy and the democratic electoral process as the ultimate exercise in marketing. (Excerpted from Sheri Linden’s review in The Hollywood Reporter)

WINNER! Best Documentary - Sarasota Film Festival

What the Critics are Saying

"Must-see! Thought-provoking and achingly hilarious." - Variety

"Witty, engaging, fascinating!" - Hollywood Reporter

"Brilliant and utterly enjoyable!" - Documentary Film Magazine (DOX)

"Equal parts charmer and exposé... part American Idol, part Survivor." - Washington Post

"Astonishing... Head-spinning! They cook up plots to topple competing candidates, enlist fellow students as political consultants, modify their behavior around potential rivals and supporters to make things go their way, and exploit vulnerabilities in their opponents that you can scarcely believe a third-grader would consider." - Ryan Stewart, Cinematical
