Description

The Rabbit is Me is part of the DEFA Collection.

A young woman, tainted after her brother's arrest for subversive political activities, has an affair with an older man - who turns out to be the judge that put her brother in jail. Banned for exposing the harsh realities of East German society, Rabbit finally saw the light of day after reunification, and was praised as one of the most important German films ever, with a humor and impressive style that brings it far beyond the political.

HONORABLE MENTION- FIPRESCI Prize & Interfilm Award, Berlin Film Festival

What the Critics are Saying

"Extraordinary, head-on collision stuff!" - Guardian (UK)

"Interesting for its thoughtfulness, naturalism, and the independent-minded strength of its young, blond, not-at-all-dumb heroine." - SF Bay Guardian

"Fresh, saucy, sarcastic humor, and a fluid camera... clearly influenced by The New Wave cinema" - Greencine

"A gem." - Tucson Weekly
