Lutz Hachmeister was born in Minden in Westphalia on September 10, 1959. He studied communications in Münster and Berlin, working as a journalist and media researcher after obtaining his doctorate. After serving as Director of the Grimme Institute from 1989-95, he has been writing and directing television reports and documentaries since 1996, and has been managing director of his own production company, HMR, since 2001. He teaches Media History and Politics and the Media at Dortmund University.
