Fidel Castro has ruled Cuba for over five decades, since revolutionary forces toppled the Batista regime in 1959. Officially elected by the Cuban people in 1976, Castro has nevertheless had to survive over 600 assassination attempts. Cuban director Rebeca Chávez uses archival film and audio material to create a collage of important moments in Castro’s political and personal life, including his re-definition of Cuba’s role after the collapse of the Communist Bloc.
