Synopsis

The Sunday Sessions offers an intimate portrait of a deeply conflicted young man named Nathan, who is struggling to reconcile his religious conviction and sexual identity. In this observational documentary, the filmmakers are given unfettered access as Nathan willingly attends clandestine conversion therapy sessions, family sessions, and weekend camps with an alluring therapist. The result is a sensitively crafted emotional and psychological thriller, which chronicles two years of his journey from acceptance to skepticism, all leading to a profound epiphany.

Reviews

"Poignantly highlights how far we have to go as a society to create a place where people don't have to choose between authenticity and faith." - Tim Rymel, M.Ed., The Huffington Post

"Director Richard Yeagley has performed an impressive feat of filmmaking." - James Croft, The Humanist

"Amazing footage...Yeagley has captured something that has rarely been documented. That is, an intimate and revealing, behind the scenes expose of the flawed and discredited practice of what has become known as conversion therapy." - Anthony Venn-Brown, Ambassadors & Bridge Builders International

"Stunningly intimate. The film is beautifully shot mainly in close-up, as Yeagley never undercuts anything said on-screen, allowing everyone to speak while candidly observing the way Nathan grapples with certainty in every aspect of his life. This reverence for personal beliefs and opinions makes this documentary even more important, as it lets the audience sift through the material on its own terms. So the real power of this film is the encouragement to listen without prejudice, and also to recognize when you're caught in a spiral of false hope." - Rich Cline, Shadows on the Wall
